Blizzard Damage in Fargo?

3/21/2022 (Permalink)

A blizzard creates zero visibility conditions. We respond to storm damage emergencies 24-hours a day in Cass County.

North Dakota had over six blizzard warnings this past winter! Typically the state gets between three and four. The February 18 blizzard closed down Interstate 29 between Fargo and the Canadian border and brought sixty mile-per-hour winds and zero visibility conditions. Our local team in Fargo responded to many storm damage emergency calls, many due to wind damage.

Here are terms used by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to define hazardous weather:

Blizzard Warning: The following conditions are occurring or are expected within the next twelve to eighteen hours.

Snow and or blowing snow reducing visibility to one-quarter of a mile or less for three hours or longer and sustained winds of 35 miles-per-hour or greater or frequent gusts to 35 miles-per-hour or greater. No temperature requirement must be met to achieve blizzard conditions.

High Wind Warning: Take Action! Sustained, strong winds with even stronger gusts are happening. Seek shelter. If you are driving, keep both hands on the wheel.

High Wind Watch: Be Prepared! Sustained, strong winds are possible. Secure loose items and adjust plans as necessary so you’re not caught outside.

Wind Advisory: Take Action: Strong winds are occurring but are not so strong to warrant a High Wind Warning. Objects outdoors should be secured, and caution should be taken if driving.
